Оказывается раньше, а точнее до 17 века, жители Западной Европы, особенно северной и восточной ее части, употребляли пиво каждый день. Даже грудничкам, отлученным от материнского молока, давали пить его ежедневно вместо чистой воды.
Но надо сказать, что процент содержания алкоголя в том пиве чуть ли не в 2 раза был меньше того, что выпускается сейчас. И, соответственно, одурманивание было незначительным.
Причиной же происходящего было низкое качество воды. Процесс брожения, происходящий при изготовлении пива, убивал все вредные бактерии, и это позволяло снизить риск получения всевозможных заболеваний от приема сырой воды.
Чай же в то время еще не был распространенным напитком, поэтому люди не прибегали к кипячению воды.
